"Just beyond yourself, it's where you need to be. Half a step into self forgetting and the rest restored by what you meet" starts a poem by one of my favorite artist David Whyte. When I first read ( or actually listened to David recite his poem in his most remarkable voice and style ) it really resonated with me on a deep level. Or maybe on many levels at the same time. Physical in the sense that you have to keep moving to not stagnate. One fot infront of the other. No matter what lays in front of you. On a mental level, to let go of old ideas of who you are, or for that matter who other people are. And as you let go you realize that you loose control of your image, or how you want to portray yourself to the world. People may not see you as you wish to be seen, but as you become fully visible you also become free. I did find this very frightening and very liberating at the same time. And on a spiritual level when you start to grasp that you really can't control anything at all, that we just have to surrender to the idea that we are being shaped by what we meet - as well as shaping what encounters us. That we have to find meaning in the idea that whatever or whomever meets us we must accept. That we are constantly shaping, being shaped. On all levels simultaneously.
